Time Travel --> 2017 Samuel & Leandro

You know how Facebook likes to remind us of what happened on this day in whatever year by featuring a photo.  January 6th's memory was from 2017 and it brought back great memories of time spent in Piton. In 2024, Samuel and I speak daily on Messenger regarding our work and Leandro has changed his life; now living in Florida but still integral to ATI.

Here is what I wrote that day on Facebook when I shared it:

These two. Samuel Pamzou Leandro Jean-Louis are two of the best men I've ever met, any country. De nan pi bon gason mwen te janm rankontre nan nenpòt peyi.

Samuel sought me out to work with him for multiple years before we were able to make it happen. Leandro was fired from a job where we worked together because of his relationship with me. Then he turned down double the pay I could give him so he could stick with me in my fledgling nonprofit. When I say "two of the best," it is a sincere statement. Our nonprofit is tiny compared to others, but we have the same core people, same level of trust, and complimentary visions. Every single time I take a moment to consider these and other factors, I'm humbled all over again for the perfectness of it all. #aidtoinfrastructure #haiti

Samuel's text on original photo (English/Haitian Creole):

This friend and I started working in the Piton community in 2014. We understand very well [the importance of] to help the community in various areas such as health and education. We work inside an institution called: AID TO INFRASTRUCTURE, which has a great and courageous woman: Katherine Harrison,  accompanied by Dr. Tom Tigar and their other teammates in the United States. I am very happy to work with this institution for progress.

Today I take this moment to especially thank Ms. Katherine for her many collaborations and all her support to this community and then to my family. Thanks to my friend Leandro Jean-Louis for your collaboration.

God bless us.

Imagine. Air, hot and sticky and thick. A home made of crude concrete blocks, crumbly and rough. Windows made of uncovered holes in the wall, or of decorative brick that allow little air to flow through.
