The Haitian Language

Haitian Creole or Kreyòl Ayisyen

Everyday Haitians will speak Spanish before they speak English. For Americans who know Spanish, it will likely become the bridge language between English and Kreyòl.

Wealthier, more educated Haitian tend to speak French. The government conducts its business in French and French is the language used in most school. The average Haitian family speaks Kreyòl at home.
